my paintings are a testament to the everyday; a visual expression
of this experience which in my opinion is enough. i drive on the
small roads of western michigan for inspiration, and i sketch.
these thumbnail sketches are expanded upon and changed
in the process of painting. as the composition warrants, they
are constantly moving toward resolution, so that at the conclusion
they may not resemble the sketch at all, but feel “true” in a sense
that in both visual and emotional. the group seven canadian
landscape painters have been a touchstone for my work,
as well as vuillard, and romare bearden.
