my imagery floats, reflects and explores contradictions.
the clouds/landscape images pare down open spaces to
more intimate views of passing clouds and reflections of unseen elements
in quiet backwater ponds. eliminating the horizon, i use grids of meridians
as counterpoint, exploring the interplay between a representational image
and the abstract elements of vertical and horizontal lines.
the subjects in the still life compositions, which float on abstracted
reflective surfaces, are essentially stand-ins for the roles we find
ourselves playing in life. in these images, flowers can be heroic and
enduring while the building blocks are more susceptible to the pressures
of time and circumstance.
my goal in both is to use composition, color, and texture to create a
compelling and beautiful surface.
