since I was a child I have pursued some form of artistic
expression. i began training as a classical violinist at the
world-renowned cleveland institute of music, and while
pursuing a career as a musician, i discovered the allure of
molten glass. i was immediately struck with the commonalities
between the two art forms and find my glass-work being
strongly influenced by my experience as a musician.
during a performance, i am focused on the form and phrasing
of the musical line, control of my instrument and bow through
both large and minute movements of my arms, wrist and fingers.
the same is true while i work in the hot glass shop. the
performance at the glass studio demands attention to the
rhythm and tempo of the molten glass to achieve the final form.
