my newest body of work reflects new changes in my life;
it is simple, bold and fun. in this work I celebrate color, pattern and shape.
the color’s I’ve chosen are vibrant; the patterns are clean and simple yet bold;
and the shapes have been altered and manipulated to create a sense of movement
and playfulness. i use several techniques to achieve the surface designs,
including latex and wax resists and sandblasting.
sandblasting is done as the last step in the process.
the glazed surface is either etched to achieve a satiny gray finish,
or the glaze is sandblasted of completely to reveal the beauty of the raw clay below.
both techniques create dynamic visual contrast as well as the textural interest that
entices the viewer to reach out and touch them.
